Popular Vegetarian closes, Amazing Kitchen rolls on

Numerous people have been in touch lamenting the closure of  Popular Vegetarian (Western District, HK Island) at the turn of the calendar year. Popular Vegetarian was an all vegan, family run, Chinese neighbourhood restaurant. As well as great tasting meals they were also very reasonably priced. Sadly missed & fondly remembered. Being a victim to exorbitant rent increases at lease renewal time is an all too familiar story in HK. Influenced in this case by the opening of Sai Ying Pun MTR accelerating rent increases even further?

Free vegetarian food daily at Wan Chai’s Sikh temple

Khalsa Diwan Sikh Temple in Wan Chai offer free vegetarian food daily to the community. It’s also very tasty eats. The food offered is a combo of lacto and vegan grade vegetarian food. Being Indian vegetarian food, no egg  is used. On attending with two others it was a delight to be given an eating tray and served dahl, salad, rice and chapati (and plenty of it). All tasted great. The lacto vegetarian in the group was also given some other dishes that contained cow milk.

Wild Thyme no longer 100% vego

Disappointing news from TST. Wild Thyme has undergone a management change. Under previous management Wild Thyme offered a 100% vegetarian Middle Eastern food menu (much of it also vegan). Almost all alcohol retailing restaurants in HK sell booze processed with the likes of beef / pork gelatin, fish extract or crustacean shell. Wild Thyme offered an extensive list of exclusively vegetarian alcoholic beverages (again much of it vegan friendly).
